Simple System Tweaker is free software that is developed by tweaking.com. It is designed to bring only the safest tweaks to your system to increase speed and stability.

Windows operating system comes with the default configuration, and by doing fine-tuning in your Windows configuration, you can increase the speed and snappiness of the operating system. The Simple System Tweaker comes with an easy user interface, and one can easily use this software. It supported registry backup and restored it so that you can revert the setting in any disaster.

According to the official website, the Simple System Tweaker works with Windows XP, Server 2003, Win Vista, Win 7, Win 8, and Server 2008. In my test, it worked well on Windows 8.1 too.

This freeware tool can provide General Tweaks, Services Tweaks, Networking Tweaks, and Visual Tweaks. Presently, version 2.0.0 is available for download, and the same can be grabbed from the link provided at the end of the article.

Under the General Tweaks, you can make the following changes.

  1. Memory Tweaks, Show details when booting or shutting down,
  2. Remove compress old files from disk cleanup,
  3. Add run in separate memory space check box to run dialog box,
  4. Disable automatic restart in the event of a BSOD (Blue Screen of Death),
  5. Speed up shut down – auto kill hung programs & services,
  6. Opens 16-bit apps in separate memory specs,
  7. Place boot files optimally on the hard drive for faster boots,
  8. Launch windows desktop in a separate process,
  9. Disable MFT fragmentation,
  10. Modify the folder storage space to 20000,
  11. Turn off folder auto template discovery,
  12. All items have an “Edit with notepad” on the right-click menu,
  13. Disable tracking of broken shortcut links,
  14. Keep positive entries in DNS Cache for 4 hrs instead of 24 hrs.

Under the Networking Tweaks, you can make the following changes:

  1. Keep remote desktop/terminal server from disconnecting,
  2. Improve network file sharing, disable TCP timestamps,
  3. Show LAN errors in-network status window,
  4. Improve file share access in a mixed operating system environment,
  5. Disable windows network auto-tuning,
  6. Keep TCP working when using Internet Connection sharing.

Under the Services Tweaks, you can make the following changes:

  1. Search Indexer,
  2. Help service,
  3. Windows Media Center Services,
  4. Remote registry,
  5. Windows Image Acquisition (WIA),
  6. Error reporting, diagnostic policy,
  7. Function discovery provider host,
  8. SSDP discovery

Under the Visual Tweaks, you can make the following changes:

  1. Disable Animate windows when minimizing and maximizing
  2. Disable fade or slide menus into view
  3. Disable fade or slide ToolTips into view
  4. Disable fade out menu items after clicking
  5. Disable show shadows under windows
  6. Disable show shadows under the mouse pointer
  7. Disable show translucent selection rectangle
  8. Disable show window contents while dragging
  9. Disable Slide open combo boxes
  10. Disable slide taskbar buttons
  11. Disable smooth edges of screen fonts
  12. Disable smooth-scroll list boxes
  13. Disable use a background image for each folder type
  14. Disable the use of common tasks in a folder
  15. Disable the use of drop shadows for icon labels on the desktop
  16. Disable the use of visual styles on windows and buttons
  17. Disable desktop composition
