Micromax has launched the first smartphone under their YU brand of Cyanogen OS-based, the YU Yureka (AO5510). The smartphone has been priced at Rs. 8,999, and will go up for registrations via Amazon India from the second week of January.

As an introductory offer, earlier customers will get a leather back cover worth Rs 999 free. The company is also offering “free replacement or repair” at the user’s doorstep. The Yu Yureka runs on a custom-build of Cyanogen OS, Cyanogen OS v11, based on Android 4.4.4 KitKat OS. It will be upgradable up to Cyanogen-based Android 5.0 Lollipop.

Micromax’s Yu Yureka comes with dual micro-SIM (4G LTE+WCDMA) and features dual standby functionality. On the Cat.4 LTE connectivity, you can download a file with maximum speed up to 150 Mbps or upload up to 50 Mbps. The phone sports a 5.5-inch HD (720×1280 pixels) IPS display with a pixel density of 267ppi and Gorilla Glass 3 protection.

The Yureka is powered by a 64-bit 1.5GHz octa-core Snapdragon 615 SoC (MSM8939) processor and coupled with Adreno 405 GPU, alongside 2GB of RAM. It bears a 13-megapixel Sony Exmor CMOS sensor, rear camera with autofocus, f/2.2 aperture, and flash. It also houses a front-facing 5-megapixel fixed-focus camera onboard.

The Yu Yureka has 16 GB of inbuilt storage that is expandable via a MicroSD card (up to 32 GB). Only a 2500mAh Li-PO battery backs it, but the company claims that it will deliver 25 percent more power, which is equivalent to a 3000mAh battery, means talk time up to 8 hours, standby time up to 310 hours, the video playback time of up to six hours, and gaming up to 4 hours.

The connectivity options include Yureka Bluetooth 4.0, Micro-USB, Wi-Fi 802.11 b/g/n, GPS, and a 3.5mm audio jack. The handset measures 154.8 x 78 x 8.8 mm dimensions, has sensors, accelerometer, proximity, ambient light, and a gyroscope.
