How to use a ZTE USB data modem without the Connection Manager?

ZTE USB modems come with a virtual CD-ROM and after connecting to PC, it automatically installs the correct drivers and connection manager, which allows you to run the dongle properly. But, in case if you don’t want to connect to the internet through the software of ZTE, then you need to follow some steps:

1. Insert the USB modem to the computer and let it install the required files.

2. Once the installation is finished, the Connection Manager will automatically launch, and
load the drivers.

3. Close the Connection Manager.

4. Detect the device under DC unlocker.

5. At the end of the result, in a new line, paste the following command:

AT+ZOPRT=5

Press Enter from the keyboard. This command makes the device to stay in online mode.

Again, paste the following command:

AT+ZCDRUN=8

Press Enter from the keyboard. This command disables auto-run of virtual CD-ROM of the dongle.

Again, paste the following command:

AT+CGDCONT=4,”IP”,”APN”,,0,0

Note: Replace APN with your service provider APN.

Suppose you want to configure the profile for Telstra carrier, then APN will be Telstra.internet and the full command will be AT+CGDCONT=4,”IP”,”Telstra.internet”,,0,0

Once you have correct command entered in the software, press Enter from the keyboard.

By issuing the above AT commands, you have disabled the automatic launch of the connection manager, means when you will plug in the device to the computer, the Connection Manager will not launch automatically, you will be able to use this device without the Connection Manager.

Now create a dial-up connection to connect to the internet.
