How to set default browser as Chrome, Firefox, Internet Explorer, or Edge?

Google Chrome, Mozilla Firefox, Internet Explorer, Opera, and Microsoft Edge are major browsers. All of us have our own favorite web browser, and we prefer to use it to connect to the internet. Windows 10 ships with Microsoft Edge as the default. While it is a good browser, some of you may want to switch to an alternative browser. So today, in this post, we will see how you can set Chrome, Firefox, Internet Explorer or Edge as your default browser in Windows 10/8/7.

Windows 10 ships Microsoft Edge as the default browser. It is a good browser, and after the Anniversary Update, now it supports Extensions too. There are various customizations possible like you can disable Microsoft Edge Tab Preview, save a web page as a PDF file, change downloads folder via Settings, enabling dark theme, etc.

There are various features available in Edge browse, but still, you may want to switch to an alternative browser. This post will see how to set Chrome, Opera, Firefox, Internet Explorer or Edge as your default browser in Windows 10/8/7.

If you are using Windows 7/8/10, you will be able to see defaults for all your programs, including web browsers, from the Control Panel. You have to navigate to Control Panel > All Control Panel Items > Default Programs.

Alternatively, browsers also let you set your default browsers via its setting.

Set Microsoft Edge as the default browser

Open the Edge browser, click on the 3-dotted settings link to open Settings. Click on the “Change my default” button and proceed as required.

Set Internet Explorer as the default browser

Open Internet Explorer, go to Tools, and select Internet Options. Under the Programs tab, click on the “Make Internet Explorer the default browser” link to make IE the default web browser.

Set Firefox as the default browser

Click on the 3-lined icon in the top right corner to open Firefox settings. Navigate to the Options > General. Press the Make Default button.

Set Google Chrome as the default browser

Click on the 3-lined icon in the top right and select Settings. Click on the Make Google Chrome the default browser button.
