How to restore the Disk Cleanup button, if it is missing in Windows 10/8/7?

Disk Cleanup is a small utility that comes inbuilt with every Windows operating system. One can access Disk Cleanup by right click on any disk drive and choose Properties.

What is Disk Cleanup?

Disk Cleanup (cleanmgr.exe) is a computer maintenance utility that comes with Microsoft Windows and is designed to free up disk space on a computer’s hard drive. The utility first searches and then analyzes the hard drive for files that are no longer used and then removes the unnecessary files.

How to restore the missing Disk Cleanup button in Windows 10/8/7?

You may find that the Disk Cleanup button is missing from the Drive Properties box on your Windows 10/8/7 PC because of a corrupt Registry.

To restore the missing Disk Cleanup button, go to Start and type Regedit to open the Windows Registry Editor. Navigate to the following key:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\MyComputer

Here, Right-click on My Computer and select New > Key. Rename the new key to cleanuppath.

Now one right pane of cleanuppath, double-click the Default value to edit its value. In the Value Data field, copy-paste the following path:

%SystemRoot%\System32\cleanmgr.exe /D %c

Click OK and exit from the Registry Editor.
