Freeware Tools to Create Windows To Go USB of Windows 10

Windows To Go is a handy feature of Windows that lets you install and run the Windows operating system from a USB flash drive. Microsoft also provides the Windows To Go creator feature, but it is available only in the Enterprise edition of Windows 10. But, with the help of a third-party tool, you can create Windows To Go disk for every edition and boot Windows 10 from USB drives.

Before you start creating ‘Windows To Go disk,’ make sure to use a Windows To Go certified USB drive because normal flash drives are not enough for ‘Windows To Go’ drive and are usually prolonged. Microsoft recommends using 32 GB+ USB drives, but with these third-party tools, you can create Windows To Go even on a 16 GB drive.

Rufus

Rufus has added support for Windows To Go in its v2.0 update. This freeware apps allows you to create Windows To Go drive from any edition of Windows 10. You can create the disk on Windows 8.1 or Windows 10 to activate the Windows To Go feature, which means you cannot run this software on Windows 7 to create the Windows To Go disk of Windows 10.

Rufus is less than 1 MB in size; moreover, it is a portable software that requires no installation.

WinToUSB

WinToUSB is the first software released for the Windows operating system to prepare the Windows To Go disk of any Windows operating system version. The software supports all editions of Win 7, Win 8, Win 8.1, and Win 10.

WinToUSB is also free to use and can clone your current Windows installation as a Windows To Go USB drive.
