DataWind PocketSurfer 2G4 and 3G4 Smartphone at Rs 1,999 and Rs 2,999

DataWind, the company behind the ultra-affordable Aakash tablet, had today announced two low-cost smartphones in India, the PocketSurfer 2G4 and PocketSurfer 3G4. It is priced at only Rs 1,999 and Rs 2,999 respectively.

Both the smartphone will come with free internet for one year of Reliance carrier. The manufacturer has partnered with Reliance Communications to offer free data with these devices, including unlimited web browsing, email, and social networking.

DataWind PocketSurfer 3G5The DataWind PocketSurfer 2G4 runs the out-dated Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich OS and features a 3.5-inch capacitive touchscreen display with 320 x 480 pixels of resolution. It is powered by a 1GHz Cortex A5 processor and coupled with 256MB of RAM.

512MB internal storage of PocketSurfer 2G4 is also expandable with up to 32GB of microSD card. It comes with a VGA camera at the rear and supports dual-SIM (GSM+GSM) with dual standby functionality.

On the other hand, the DataWind PocketSurfer 3G4 runs on now-dated Android 4.4 KitKat OS and features a 4-inch capacitive touchscreen display with 800 x 480 pixels resolution. The phone is powered by a 1.2GHz dual-core Cortex A7 processor and coupled with 256MB of RAM.

The 512MB, built-in storage of PocketSurfer 3G4 is further expandable with up to 32GB of microSD card. It houses a 5MP rear camera with an LED flash and packs a VGA front shooter for video calling. It also has dual-SIM slots (WCDMA+GSM) and features dual standby functionality.

Both handsets offer connectivity options, Bluetooth, Wi-Fi, 3.5 mm ear jack, and FM Radio.

DataWind is also offering last year’s PocketSurfer 3G5 with a free internet plan. It is equipped with a 5-inch display, 1.2GHz dual-core Cortex A7 SoC, Android 4.4 KitKat OS, 512MB RAM, 4GB of internal memory, 3MP front snapper, 5MP rear camera, 3G, and dual-SIM slots. It is available for Rs. 5,499.

These smartphones will be available starting today via Naaptol shopping platforms, and their availability will be expanded to major brick-and-mortar retail stores starting March 24th.
